My submission to 's "Life, Death, Rebirth" contest. She asked that submissions include one or more of her characters involved in one or more of these themes. I tried to include all three themes into my piece, with Khaos (blue eyed dog) alive, K's brother dead or dying, and the flower representing rebirth.
I spent about a week on this piece meticulously adding fur, the rest (flower, nose, paws, nails, so on) took me about a day. Fur takes a long time to do, doncha know?
This, besides being a contest entry, was also an experiment in drawing things with atmospheric perspective (lighter colors and less detail the further away you are from an object). Thus, K's brother is rather faded and blurry while Khaos (the focus point being somewhere around his nose and the flower) comes into sharper focus and is darker.
So hopefully, everyone appreciatest the symbolism embedded in this piece. I didn't want any blood because gore wasn't my focus and besides, I want the audience to guess what's afflicting Khaos's brother. What could it be? Is there some gaping wound somewhere or illness, or some genetic ailment? It's fun to imagine the explanation and why there is one lone pink rose in the middle of a wasteland.
you really did an amazing job on this!... At first I was just completely taken back by the beautiful details and the emotion captured in this moment... but after reading the description, and taking a second look, the effect of that atmospheric projectiong really adds a kind of deapth and realism that seems to make it that much more moving. Your eye for details is amazing, and I feel like that's an understatement. The rose is gorgeous even down to the tiny-est dew drops..
the only thing that doesn't sit with me so well [in terms of the three themes] is the rose actually, I just dont see rebirth in the rose as far as symbolism goes... It just seems a little out of place, like it's just laying there, like others are mourning so they have dropped a rose at his feet as a way of paying their last respects....
ah anyway it's just my opinion, I wont go into any more detail about it because it just kind of detracts from the beauty of this piece. heh i shut up now.
Wow! You really portrayed her characters perfectly. I love the small amount of teeth you can see in -is his name Maxx?-'s brother's mouth o_o;; I looks really good. And the fur looks really great, as well as how you can almost see fingers in the paws! As well the eyes, nows and claws are really enchanting. And the flower is really well represented
