Artist's Comments

I don't normally upload personal photos, but this one came out pretty decent and I just HAVE to show off my new baby. She's a black-headed caique I adopted from a breeder in Camino, CA. They did a wonderful job raising her as she's the sweetest and most clownish little bird I've ever met.

Thank you, fellow deviants! The work I do for you helps me and others like me earn the little bit it takes to improve our lives in addition to beautifying your's a tiny bit. Your commissions are responsible in part for my getting this beautiful little girl and I am exceedingly grateful. Thank you!

Birds are notoriously bad at forgiving. If they've been abused or neglected in the past, they can have a very hard time letting go of the wildness they regained due to lack of care and attention. It can take months or years to get your bird to fully trust you, the trick is being patient and never giving up. Always offer them lots of time outside of their cage, give them nice toys and good food. Talk to him often, scratch his head if he lets you. He'll come out of his shell, bit by bit. Training helps too, but you'll have to find his favorite food to help him focus. Millet might work. Place a finger by his feet and "step up". If he does, immediately offer him some millet. It's a simple trick, but a very useful one. Just learning one trick can improve the bond between the bird and their owner. Now you've communicated a little and that's a great way to build trust.

Aww, I’m so happy for you! Enzo is beautiful, and such a fantastic name too!
I almost got a Black-Headed Caique- they were just the cutest little birds I had ever seen.

You only need two tools in life: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.
